ICCR Scholarships for Ethiopia and Djibouti |

Ethiopia The Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) offers 20 slots for each academic session to Ethiopia under the General Cultural Scholarship Scheme (GCSS) and 20 slots under the Cultural Exchange Programme (CEP). These cover almost all areas of higher studies including undergraduate, postgraduate, engineering, architecture, arts and research scholarships M.Phil/Ph.D programmes in various Universities of India. However, it is not available for courses related to medicine like MBBS, BDS, etc. The selected candidates are required to bear their own expenditure on international airfare for travel to India and back. Other expenses on account of tuition fee, boarding & lodging, study tours, medical treatment, etc. are taken care of by the ICCR. The students are also given some maintenance allowance. For the year 2005-06, three candidates availed of the scholarship under GCSS and three candidates availed of the CEP out of the 10 slots allotted in each scholarship. For the year 2006-07, all the 20 scholarships have been utilised and Ethiopian students have been admitted to several Indian Universities in various disciplines. For the year 2007-08, and 2008-09 all the 20 slots allotted by ICCR were utilized. Each year in late December, the Mission receives application forms and intimation about number of scholarship slots allotted to Ethiopia. The information is sent to the Ministry of Education, Addis Ababa seeking nomination of suitable candidates. The nominations are required to be submitted to the Embassy in the first week of February of the following year and are forwarded to the ICCR. The ICCR, in turn, sends these applications to various Universities to determine eligibility in accordance with qualification of the nominated candidate. In May, the Mission starts receiving acceptances from the Universities concerned when the candidates are informed and advised to complete other formalities before their departure. The courses in India start in early August. The Candidate should possess valid passport, valid Yellow Fever vaccination certificate and obtain necessary visa before proceeding for studies to India. Following are some of the requirements/guidelines for the ICCR scholarships: ·Candidate nominated for scholarship should have fluent knowledge of English. ·Nominations are not accepted for the MBBS / BDS and courses related to medicine. ·No airfare is provided to the selected candidates. ·Candidates should send to this Embassy six complete set of application forms, duly filled in all respects along with supporting documents. · Certified copies of all documents should be accompanied with English translations, where applicable, and a syllabus of the qualifying examination should be enclosed with the application. · No applications will be entertained which are sent to ICCR directly by the students or which are sent by the local Embassies/High Commissions in New Delhi. v It may also be ensured that students recommended are below 35 years of age. v Students applying for doctoral/postdoctoral courses or architecture should include a synopsis of the proposed area of research. v Students wishing to study performing arts should enclose video/audio cassettes of their recorded performances wherever possible. v In case of scholars pursuing Science courses, the expenditure on laboratory chemicals and other related incidental charges will be borne by the scholars themselves. v Selected candidates will have to undergo AIDS test on arrival in India. In case any of the nominees is found HIV positive in India, the scholar will have to go back to his/her country at own cost. v Once admission of scholar is confirmed and the scholar has arrived in India to join the course, no subsequent change in course of study or University is allowed.
